The most beautifully curated experience! This is what a cocktail bar should be. Hop Sing Laundromat checks all of the boxes - sincerely amazing customer service, intimate & stunning ambience, the GREATEST cocktails you’ll ever have. Everything about this place has been intentionally crafted including the 2 rules that are too easy to follow - no phone calls once you enter & no photos or videos can be taken. The bar is dimly lit and the walls are filled with art. Each table covered in a white cloth adorned with a real rose and a burning candle. A truly good music selection is playing throughout that is loud enough to listen to, but never too loud to where you cannot have conversation. The cocktail menu is vast and each cocktail itself…phenomenal. Thank you to Lê and the entire team at Hop Sing Laundromat for leaving us with a such an impression! I will not go another 9 years in between my visits.
The best kept secret for a reason. If you want to actually connect, this is the place. The no-phone policy is an invitation to be present—there’s something incredibly sexy about a world-class cocktail in the dim light without a glowing screen in sight. Thursday nights are the move for the $10 curated menu. It’s a hit every time and perfectly comfortable whether you’re solo or with a group. That said, make sure to come back another night for the full menu to experience the true depth of their craft. The staff makes you feel like a total insider. Bring your ID, bring your cash, and leave your digital life at the door. You won’t miss it!
There is no food here. The pictures on google are from another place because they don’t allow cameras or photography inside…. if you politely wait outside the gate, the owner will come greet you. I would not recommend ringing the buzzer. He will then ask for your ID and after a verification will allow you come inside. He really cares about the people he lets in, and their privacy. Once inside, you’ll be treated to a speakeasy vibe with a huge menu of delicious drinks and fantastic service. Definitely worth it.
I was excited and intrigued when I first heard about Hop Sing, since frequenting cocktail establishments is one of my favorite things to do. I was not let down! Starting with the courteous and welcoming meeting from the owner, the attentive staff and perfect atmosphere and environment, to the superbly crafted drinks, I wasn’t let down one bit. My first experience at Hop Sing exceeded expectations and I look forward to returning. Thanks for creating a personal, conversation-having space!
I visited this unique bar with my mother last month and had no idea what to expect. We have been to most bars in and around Philly as we visit Philly constantly. I was shocked to find out that I never heard of Hop Sing’s until I read about it in a book (“100 Things to Do in Philly Before You Die”). I researched the rules beforehand so we could make sure we made a good first impression. I had read a lot of negative reviews in my research, but that did not deter us. We wanted to see for ourselves. Once we gained entrance, we found that the owner was actually very nice and reasonable as long as you respected his rules (fair enough, since it’s his business and property and he has a right to enact rules as he sees fit. It’s like entering someone’s house and respecting their home. Anyone who disagrees can easily just go somewhere else and enjoy themselves). The rules aren’t even unreasonable. You pretty much have to just dress respectfully, not take any pictures inside, speak in soft tones (no shouting), and just respect the establishment and honestly you’ll be fine. We absolutely loved the experience! We loved that there was not ONE TV inside! We hate sports bars where people are constantly shouting at TV screens and you can’t even hear or talk to the person right next to you. Hop Sing’s was a refreshing break from all the noise and distractions. The artwork that hangs on the walls was just breathtaking as we sipped our uniquely crafted drinks. The drinks were unlike anything I had tried before and we loved them. There were so many unique flavors and fresh ingredients. My mom even said the classy atmosphere reminded her a lot of clubbing back in the 1980s, where proper behavior, respect, and dress codes were expected and the norm. Hop Sing’s is a rare gem in these modern times and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet, classy, unique, and nostalgic bar experience.
First time I’ve left a review for any bar. This is definitely worth going to. 1) The Atmosphere: The owner has clearly spent a lot of time cultivating and curating a particular aesthetic, one of high class and privacy. I’ve been to almost every bar in Philadelphia, and most of the time, it unfortunately feels like most other guests are more interested in taking photos of themselves and the establishment. This is not the case here, and it’s a breath of fresh air. This is the only place in Philadelphia where it genuinely feels authentic, intimate, and most importantly, private. 2) The Drinks There is practically a dictionary of unique drink options. I brought two friends and all three of us, with significantly different tastes, found something we liked. 3) The Door When we came there was a line that wasn’t too long. When you get to the front the owner will explain the rules to you very clearly, which are all quite reasonable. I honestly don’t understand other reviews where people complain, I guarantee if you’re at least semi-competent you’ll be able to follow the rules here. It helps if you’re also privacy conscious like me - the no photography rule is an idea I wish other bars copied. For anyone who is privacy-conscious and wants a unique experience, this is definitely the place to go.
Me and some friends went to check out this fine establishment. Atmosphere was a 10/10 as well as the drinks! Be prepared to put your phone away because photos and calls aren’t allowed while inside. I appreciate this because it makes you become human again and enjoy the company you’re with. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!
We had a blast at Hop Sing Laundromat. Visiting Philly for the first time, I read about the unique experience of this place and was super excited to check it out. Every aspect was thoughtfully staged to create an experience that hearkens back to an older time, where decorum and intimacy are prioritized. From the host's formal reception, to the moody ambiance, to the meticulously selected playlist, this was a lovely experience. Cocktails were exquisite. Our server was knowledgeable and playful. Highly recommend.
